A one-off. A comic genius. Jekyll and Hyde. These are some of the ways in which Kenneth Williams could be described. Now, in the year in which he would have turned 100, a new musical will open at Uppingham Theatre to celebrate the centenary of the iconic comedy actor, born on 22 February 1926. Wink Taylor stars as Kenneth. ‘He captures every single vocal inflection and nuance seemingly with ease, to the point that you could easily forget at times this is not the genuine article, which is testament to Taylor’s brilliance.’ (SetTheTape on Screaming Queens)
Uppingham actor and writer Henry Dawe has written the book and lyrics to the show, with music by Tom Neill. Direction is by John Hewer and musical direction by Christopher Peters. One hundred years on from Kenneth’s birth, the team’s mission is to pay tribute to Kenneth and to recognise the contribution he made whilst fighting his troubles.
